To
the guests of Boondocks Lodge:
I have
hunted all over the continent from Canada to Mexico and in between.
One thing you discover if you hunt enough is that there are no guarantees.
What you hope to count on is the quality of the experience, a "vacation" of
sorts. I thought I had mostly good luck with my hunting trips...until
I booked with Boondocks Lodge. Frankly, I didn't know what a good trip
was!
Genuine, caring people who made the difference. Forget the shooting,
which by the way was excellent. Mike Gray and his family made the
trip. The Lodge proper is a spacious new facility with terrific views
of the impoundments as well as immaculate clean. Hot showers, fresh
linens, big screen satellite TV, hot tub...the kids didn't want to go home.
Margie Gray is "chef supreme" and her recipes are Granny's Sunday
best...definitely not your typical camp food. And the desserts...oh
my.
When
was the last time you went duck hunting before dawn, got afield, and the
decoys were already out? All the time you say, 'cause the guides leave
them out all season. Not on this hunt. The guides get up at 3:30
a.m. and put them out the morning of the hunt. And guess why? So
the party can sleep longer, and the ducks have a chance to settle back down.
Now that's professional. Throw in some Arkansas state champion duck
callers, and you're set.
And
since you are doing all that eating, the boys don't want you to risk a
bellyache walking to the blind or timber. You don't walk at all.
you ride by boat or four-wheeler on every hunt. My kid is spoiled
rotten for hunting around here now.
Here's
the kicker, and this is what I mean about "genuine" and "caring". The
day after the flight in I was crying one morning about an earache from
flying I guess. When we got back in from the morning hunt they had
made an appointment for me that afternoon with their family doctor! I
may be wrong, but most people would say, "gosh, that's too bad, we're sorry"
and that would be that. Not the Grays.
So I
hope everyone reading this has the good fortune of meeting these find folks
as my son and I did. Hey, pulling the trigger is great, and they are
awfully good at that. But what sets them apart is their sincere
hospitality, and honest concern for the welfare of others. And that's
the truth. Best to all for great Arkansas hunting at the Boondocks.
